If you plan to lose belly fat, you have to understand that there are two types of fat in the abdominal area. First, there is the subcataneous fat, which lays between your abdominal muscles and your skin, covering your abs. The second type is the visceral that stays behind your abs and surrounds your internal organs.


If your have a typical bear belly, which feels kind of hard if you put pressure on it, you probably have most of the visceral fat.


Anyway, how should we exercise to lose the belly fat?


There is a fact you always should be aware of. Fat never turns into muscles. And muscles never turn into fat. However, your amount of muscles can increase or decrease. And the same can be said about fat.


Because of this you will not lose your belly fat by doing crunches only, as your stomach fat will not convert directly into muscles. You will of course get stronger abs by doing crunches, but the amount of energy you will use doing crunches will not be sufficient to burn your body fat and belly fat away. Doing extensive crunches and abdominal exercises without doing any other fat burning activities, could in fact make your belly bigger, as you get more muscles behind the subcataneous fat.

There is no way of spot burning fat. To lose belly fat you will need to do body workouts that will exercise all your large muscle groups, in a way that will be impossible with crunches only. When doing full body workouts, you will be better off when it comes to fat burning, and luckily the fat in the abdominal area is probably the first one to go, as well.


When doing full body workouts, the exercises for your stomach region alone only needs to take a few minutes. Focus most of your energy on deadlifts, squats, training your core muscles as well as high intensive cardio as in interval training.


A decent workout schedule to lose belly fat should include strength training (full body workouts) 3 times a week, and interval training 1 - 2 times a week.
